Christchurch, Jan. 17.

At the third wool sale of the season, held to-day, 12,750 bales wore catalogued. There was a largo attendance of buyers, and competition was much brisker than at previous sales, the local factories bidding strongly for merinos and half-breds. In the former class there was an advance of $d to Id; best halfbreds were £d, and medium descriptions better. Crossbreds showed practically no alteration. During the forenoon top prices for merino and haifbred were 6-Jd, fihe crossed 7d, crossbred 6d.

Christchurch, January 16

At Addington yards to-day there were again heavy yardings of all classes of sheep, the total entry being much above the average. The attendance was good.

Fat cattle: 166 head were sent forward, a fair proportion being prime, but the sale was somewhat dull and price showed a slight decline, values ranging from 18s to 23s per 1001 b, according to quality. Steers made from £6 5s to £9 ss, one extra good animal bringing £lO 10s; heifers, £5 5s to £9 2s 6d; cows, £4 5s to £7 17s 6d.

Fat sheep: There was a moderate yarding, a few lines of prime quality conrng forward, Freezers sold well up to late rates, and good to prime ■'butcher’s ewes showed an advance, ordinary sorts being without change. Wethers brought 17s to 21s ; extra, to 22s sd; best ewes, 17s to 19s sd; other’s from 12s 6d to 16s 6d. There was a heavy entry of fat lambs. 5160 coming forward, mostly prime and well drafted lines. Best quality of freezers brought last week’s prices, though competition was not quite so keen, and light, unfinished sorts were easier. Prime freezers sold at 15s to 17s 2d ; other sorts, 12s 3d to 14s 6d. About 8700 store sheep came forward, the majority being lambs and Wethers. There was a keen demand for all young sheep and forward rape lambs, old ones and backward lambs not being sought after. Wethers brought 16s to 17s 2d 4 two-tooth ewes, 17s 4d ; other sorts, 12s to 16s; rape lambs, 12s 6d to 14s ; others, 10s to 11s fid. Pigs—There was a fairly large entry, but a number were only half finished. Prime baconers and porkers sold well up to last week’s rates, and stores were in tetter demand. Baconers made 82s 6d to 50a, equal to 3£d per lb; porkers, 20s to 325, equal to 3£d to 4d per lb; forward stores, to 245; others, 12s fid to 19s; and suckers and weaners, <6s to 11s fid.
