Lyne despatched the following cable to Mr Chamberlain : —The meeting of Premiers of all the States of the Commonwealth was much pleased at the commendation expressed of the Australian soldiers, and unanimously agreed to comply with the (Loire of the Imperial Government tOi further drafts. So far as can bo judged, th 9 Australian Contingents will require about 2300; 2500 horses can be ready about the end of this month. Wo shall ba glad to know how long the troops should bo engaged for, and if pay commences from enlistment. It is nb.-olulely necessary that the imperial Government should send transports to convey the men to South Africa, and if is very desirable that their equipment, 'other than horses, should he found for them on their arrival there. 1 he New South Wales soldiers now at the front, must have the option of returning.
