Waimate Caledonian Society.
The Wairaate Caledonian Sports ! this year promise to be a great success- land' -competition foe the majority of events will probably be a record. A- new event this year, the tug-of-war, we understand, will bring competitors from Ashburton down to Balmerston Sonth, and at least eight pipers have promised to be present. The Wai mate Brass Band have obtained new beofceh music from Wellington, which they are hard at work at. The concert will also be a gfeat success, and the public are promised such a musical treat as has never been placed upon the boards in Wai mate before, the performers including- Mrs Howie, Christchurch, and Misses Murphy and Rose Blaney, Dnedia, Misses Turnbull and Sinclair (Waimate), and Messrs Demson and Young, Dunedin, Ryan, Christchurch, and others. The cycling competitors are hard at work every night upon the track, and are dohig good work, and ' with the additional influx of population in | the district, and new membeis, the Waimate Caledonian Society promises to be, ere long; the premier club in South Ganterbury.
