Grand Christmas Carnival.
On Thursday evening next, the formal opening of the Carnival by Hon. W. J. Stewacd M.H.R., will take place. For a considerable time, the ladiea of the. district have been making active preparations for the grand event, and have succeeded in getting together a most valuable collection of artistic and useful articles- . Four stalls 'representing, respectively, England, Ireland, Scotland and New Zealand, will* be managed by ladies attired in fancy costume. There will be also a produce stall, refreshment [•stall and several side shows. The Volunfper Hail will undergo quite ! a transformation and will be | decorated with coloured muslins, [ flags, ferns and evergreens. A j large stage is to be erected for the i various dances and tableaux go be given by the children, assisted by their friends. The committee have spent no pains to make the Carnival attractive, and they confidently expect that liberal patronage will be given them A on next Thursday and every evening during the Carnival.
