The usual monthly meeting of the above was held last evening j present, His Worship the Mayor (Dr. Barclay) in the chair aod Cra. Dean, Sinclair, O'Connor and Philip. The newly elected eounoiUorat Messrs Coltm&n, Inkster, Caujaraq and Jones I made the usual declaration and took their seats. The minute* of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. His fee for this would be ten guineas, which would be refunded if the gas were installed. Coltman thought this a subject' worthy of serious consideration. They had no figures to show the cost, but he thought it would be taken up by & number of businesa men. Jones suggested ite being left on the table for a month, Cp. Sinclair moved and Cr. Cochrane wrote asking the Council to nominate one member for the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board for Borough and County combined and also to appoint one delegate to vote at tbe Council Chambers. In addition they must appoint one member and nominate another to represent them on the Waimate Hospital Board. Cfs Dean aud O'Connor proposed that Councillor Sinclair be appointed to the Charitable Aid Board. Cr. inkster said Mr Goldman had represented the Borough for some years, with credit to the Council and himself, and be di 4 not see why they should change. He would move a 8 an amendment that Cr. Cpltman be nominated. Cr. Cameron seconded this. Cr. O'Connor said he seconded tbe motion and was not particular which member was elected, but he thought the office should be held by councillors in tnin. Cr. Sinclair said he was quite willing for the motion to be withdrawn. Cr. Coltman said if tbe Council had wished him to accept the position he would accept with reluctance, but he would now like a vote taken on it. Cr. O'Connor said if one man did it well it was no reason why he should stay at it all his life. OolSrqan then moved " That Cr. Dean be appointed to a seat on the ■Waimata Hospital Board and that Or. O'Counor be nominated to ft seat oa the same Board, Cr. Dean declined and moved that <7r. Goltman for hit services on the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board, and that a copy be sent to him. Cr. He suggested clearing the Waimafce creek of broom, near Mr Costello's. section and the cutting of a new channel to prevent scouring of more land.
