July 23. ~ During a fog in Ihe Irish Channel on RatiLiday, the Cunard liner Campania struck the barque Embleton, whr<3h JLeff; Liverpool on July 19 for Port Chalmers with a general cargo, cutting ber in two. Tne latter lost eleven of her crew. Tho steamors Dromedary and Alligator collided in a fog at Belfast Lough. The former carried 600 Glasgow passengers, 40 of whom were inj a red and five killed. Lord Curzon reports that there are hopeful crop prospects in India.

Brisbane, July 24. Two brothers named Smiley, who descended a mine after firing a charge of dynamite, were killed by the fumes.
Adelaidk, July 24. Mr Warren states that everything is arranged for laying the cable from Cap© Colony to Glenelg, -The landing station has been chosen at Oottlesoe Beach near Freemantl*. Tenders will shortly be called for preparing tho South Australian landing station. It is expected the laying will bo oompleted by the end of noxt year.
