July 23. A party of Boers, with four guns, surrounded and determinedly attacked Railhead, near Heidelberg, on Saturday. Professor Watson- Oheyne, of Kings College, London, an eminent authority in surgery, in a letter, condemns the absence of an indeyendenc transport for the Army Medical Department in South Africa- He declares that the New South Wales iiold hospital has done the greatest amount of good work during the aampaign. The Medical Department would often have been in serious difficulty without it. The Boers destroyed the -telegraph wires and railway line north of Honingspruit. A British supply train and 100 Highlanders were captured. A battle is impending.

-July 24. General Broadwood had a sharp encounter at Walweilfonfcein, on the 19bh, with a commando of 2000 Boers with four guns, commanded by Steyn and the two De Wets. Darkness prevented the pursuit. 1 Major Moor, of Western Australia, and four men were killed ; Lioutenant Stanley, of the lOch Ilassars ; Lieutenant Tooth, of New South Wales, and 14 men I wore wounded.
