Borough Council.
A meeting of the Wairaate \ Borough Council was held last \ evening. Present — His worship the Mayor (Dr Barclay) iv th« * chair, and Councillors Inkster Cameron, O'Connor, Coltman' Mann and Jones, A circular from the Agricultural Department, re Arbor Day, was read and received. The question of revising th« j Borough By-laws was considered, ' and finally it was decided, on tha motion or Councillors Coltman and O'Connor, to hold over ike revision of the By-lawa untH ] legislation, now before the House of Representatives, dealing with the powers of local bodies, w<?r« disposed of by the House. Cr Mann moved thai the By. laws relating to buildings be referred to the Board, solicitor to i revise and make effective. This - was seconded by Cr Coltman and carried. A discussion took place as to allowing a vwrandahto he erected by Mr Fox, wooden posts to be used. It was decided that this could be done. The censpit question wwavs v referred to, and His Worship rend a letter from Palmerston North, 1 stating that cesspits in that town ! were required to be water-tight, -nid war? emptied by the borough and charged i.o the owner. They existed only in the outlying parts of the town, where the watersupply and sewerage system were not connected. The question of making a Cesspit By-law was left to the Sanitary Committee.
