A FACE.

Say is it a dieam or a fancy That spring from a passing spell, On a face in the fiiehght gleaming, Unknown and yet known tull well A face with some ghastly mission, And full of a strange calm grace — A face wherein dark orbs glisten, A still, pale, beautiful face ? It floats in a mystic halo, In a shimmer of golden rays, Like the picture we see of angels, In some volume of bygone days. And it corner thus and looks at me often. At morn, in the noon, snd at night, With a gaze that flutters and thrills me, With the throb of a vast delight. In niy days of sadness and yearninp, When the burden is heavy to bear, It smiles, and its smilb hath s magic To banish the shades of care. It smiles ( and my spirit is wasted Wiih sorrow and pain no more 1 , And the sunlight glitters and dances Where the darkness hath sie^t Defoie. Ah, sweet face, fair in the fireli -lit, A glad thought cometh to me — Thou'lt come to brighten my life pome day : Can it be, tned heart— can it be '
