Telephone for Redcliff.

A meeting, attended by about 25 residents, was held in the Redcliff schoolroom iasr evening, to consider the advisability ot having Bedcliff connected with either Glenavy 01 Georgetown by telephone. Mr McNeil -was voted to the chair, and lead a letter irom Major St^wnrd saying tliat he La*l forward the petition sent him to the Postmaster-General. A telephone to Georgetown would cost .-£7B, or it could be paid in yearly instalments of £11) 10s for fivo years, if such instalments were tnvuanteed by the County Council, a telephone to Gleuavy would cost £14,2. The chairman thought it would be best to pay for the whole thing right away. Mr J. F. Douglas, • Waihao Downs, at the invitation of the chairman, kindly gave the meet ing his experience in regard to the Waimaie-Waihao Downs line. Ke strongly advised the paying for the line straight out. borne discussion took place as to the terminus of the line, but ultimately the Post Oiiice at Eedclilx was decided upon, and a committee consisting of Messrs Cuthbertson, McNeil, Wall, Wells, Geddes, and Hamilton were appointed to canvass and see whar support the project was likely to get. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Douglas for his trouble in coming and helping the meeting, and to the chairman.
