4400 fat sheep, 1500 fat lambs, 0000 store sheep, 371 cattle, and 333 pigs were yarded. Cattle.— 234 head of fat cattle were ! yarded, the" bulk being really good sorts. The large yarding caused buyer 3 to hold off, and there was little life m the tale, but last week's rates were about upheld, namely 17s to 19s for prime beef, 13s to 16s for other sorts. Fourteen North Island bullocks brought £8 5s a piece, best local steers £7 to £8, others £5 15s to £6 10s, heifers £4 2s 6d to £7, cows £3 10s to £5 15s 6d. Sheep. — A mixed entry of fat sheep of all classes met with keen competition. Fieezing sorts were dearer 6d owing to cheap . winter freights coming in, and butchers' ewes 'advanced Is to Is 6d per head. Heavy wethers brought up to 19s 4d, fieezens 16s 6d to 19b, lighter sorts down to 15s 9d, prime ewes 16s 6d to 180, good 14s to 15s 6d, others down to 13s, merino wethers 11s 9d, ewes 10s 6d. The fat lambs included a few prime lines. A very., fine consignment from the Acton estate was taken for fieesing at 24s and 255, another line of 142 at Mis 3d. Or«linaiy freezing quality brought 13s to 14s Bd, butchers sorts and inferior from 10s 6d to 12s 6d, good shorn lambs 13s. Freezing buyers competed keenly, but butcheis were not anxious. The yarding of store sheep contained a good proportion of wethers, very few of which were in forward condition. • -The demand for wethers and lambs and ewes was scarcely > so keen as it was last wvek. A large number of all sorts were passed.
