Murder at Oamaru. Oamaru, April 17.
At the inquest to-day on the body ofUhe Austrian, Peter Cartridge, several of the witnesses refused to give evidence on the ground that it irtght incriminate them, The medical evidence was that death was due to plight concussion of the bvain and great i os ° s of blood from a wound above the e-ye and from consequent shock. The w\(\ "v < T " tho ov(' must have been , V Sjw hoai a stone weighing 'oVlesstnan Sib. It wag said tha« iho deceased had thrown stones at oome^ounginen, and that they had retaliated. One of the witnesses who lives close to where the fatality • occurred, says that she heard a groan and at the same time heard footsteps as if several persons were running away fiom the spot. The deceased lay on the road till picked up by a young ■ man named Minty. After the medical evidence thiee of the young men were alrested and chatted with murder.
