•A very successful dance, .given by the young ladies of the district, '* was held in the school-room on Friday last, the room being very ; prettily decorated with flowers andevergreens. Though the night was'! cold, and not at all bright, there ! was a splendid attendance. The; dance, which commenced at nine ) o'clock, was opened with the grand \ march, in which some thirty couples l were orrthe floor. Excellent music J -

wp^s supplied throughout the evening by Messrs Jackson, Giles and JSnglebrecth (violins), and Mr ''hies (flute). Several songs were ,ung at intervals, between* the dances. Dancing was continued till the morning, when, after a vote of thanks to the young ladies of the district, Ibe company dispersed, after having spent a most enjoyable evening. . At a meeting held last Saturday evening by the Library Committee, it was decided to re-open their evenings for the season with a social, on Wednesday evening, to be held m the school-room. Mr Kelcher having resigned his post as Secretary, M> Englebrecth was elected to fill the vacancy, Miss Leslie being Librarian. A Government grant of £7 16s will enable them to add still 'more to their present list uf valuable hooks.
