Education Board.

The monthly masting of the South Canterbury Board of Education was held at Timaru on Wednesday, all the members being present. The resignation of Mr Lowe, Waitaki, on account of ill-health was received. Miss Dorm was ap-pointed-locum tenens for one year | or till the return of Mr Crawshaw, at the Timaru Main School. Mr j John Stewart was appointed pupil i teacher at Waimate m place of Sir j JR. Goldstone. Several other resigmtions were received and appointnents made. t Rev. Geo. Barclay was deputed io report on an application from Waimate for new seats. The Building committee ' recomnended the spending of' about on the various schools under ;he Board's jurisdiction. Mr Gow, Inspector of schools, eported as follows : — Thirty-five cholars took part in the exdminaion afc Waimafce, two of whoui were xamined in six subjects, 15 in five iubjects, 11 in four subjects, six in hree subjects, and one in two subects. The subjects were English, jatin, French, Euclid, Algebra, nd Trigonometry. A sum of £25 was voted towards xc proposed swimming bath at 'imaru. A fortnight's leave of absence as granted Mr Bell, assistant Inpectoi* of schools. A telegram was received from the Sommissioner of Grown Lands, sking for the position of the proosed new school at Waikakahi. The nominations of Messrs J. 'albot, 3, McNab, T. C. Farnie, A. i-ussell, Bey McKenzie Gibson and 'ieutenant- Colonel Moore were rejived for seats on the Board*
