The Star Cycling Club held a picnic at the Hook bush on Thursday afternoon. Twenty three cyclists and half a dozen traps assembled at the Post Office about 2 p.m. and headed by the Captain, Mr W. L. Scott, pedalled to the picnic ground, a distance o! about eight miLs. The roads, being in very fair order, good time was made. On arrival the picnicers partook of afternoon tea, then dispersing to inspect the beauties of the bush. The Captain's whistle was the signal for all to assemble for tea, after which Mr G. S. Mathias made a congratulatory speech in which he hoped the picnic was only a forerunner of many fU3h more. Another run would very likely be held to Keley's Bush in about a month. Eev. Blight on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Star Cycling Club for the pleasant outing. The visitors won the toss, went in, and displayed magnificent batting, Trumble and Miiler putting on runs very rapidly, At the conclusion of the day the score was 303 for two wickets. A Meeting of the Waimate War Fund Committee was held on Thursday night at which it was decided to telegraph the money in hand to the Mayor of Christchurch on Saturday morning.
