A Newspaper at Ladysmith.

An amusing and interesting^ publication has reached the Timari| Morning Post. The besieged at Lady-j smith, evidently experiencing a| want of newspaper lierature,3 issued a sheet entitled " The Lady-'l smith Lye." While it does notl pretend to retail correct and reliablei information, the sheet revels mi "Lyres," which at the time of itsd iissue — November 27th, 1899 — must] have caused a considerable amount] of amusement in the besieged town.t Some of the " latest lyres from our; own dispondents by wireless tele-! graphy " from London states that| " a shell from Long Tom burst in^ the War Office, and that General 1 Brackenbury, Director-General of Grdnance, accepted its arrival with* resignation," while the second army corps has been discovered m the pigeon holes of the War Office." Equally amusing is the information that the "the Czar has issued invitations to another! Peace Conference. Pretoria is men- 1 tioned as the probable meeting^ place. President Kruger has in-^ timated that the South African Republic will not be represented."' In all departments the " Ladysmifch ] Lyre "is fully up-to-date. It has its* personal column, in which Paul en- J treats Piet to return home at once| as everything is forgiven ; its .publishers column include, among other books, one by Major-General Sir P A Clery on " Minor Tactics," and itsi editorial notes state that contributions to the " Lyre " may be sent« to " The Editor, care of P. Kruger, Esq., Pretoria," and should be marked "To await arrival." Tha paper, which is the size of a foolscap sheet printed on both sides, is a J unique and amusing publication,! and to the besieged will form aj souvenir of an anxious period. The! original copy was received by &$ Melbourne resident, and copies i were sold in Australia in aid of the '\ Bushmen's Corps Fund, one of] which has been sent to the Post by/ Mr Hutton. -
