London, Feb. 8. The imports for January have increased £3,344,000 and the exports have increased £2,236,000. as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. The majority of the remainder of miosing notes stolen from the Paris bank last year have been sent -to the bank.
Feb. 9. The Times Berlin correspondent says that judging by the press campaign against France, Yon Bulow is possibly preparing to stimulate the Beichstag by solemnly announcing the gravity of the European situation.

Feb. 9. During the navy debate in the Reichstag, the Agrarian party suggested that Britain's recent seizures of German steamers in South African was preconterted with a view of helping the" Government to pass the Navy Bill. The Conservatives displayed unwillingness to allow the Bill to be rushed. Rear-Admiral Tirpitz, German Secretary of State of the Admiralty, during a debate in the Reichstag on the Navy Increase Bill, said the discrepancy between German and other navies was distinct and the danger was greater owing to Germany's increasing competition in trade. The centre party objected to the proposed loan to cover the cost of the increase.

Melbourne, Feb. 9. In the Assembly, Mr Higgins moved that the near approach of the Federal elections renders the ■solidarity of the Liberal Party of supreme importance, and the existence of the present Government, being an obstacle to the unity of the party, is to the best interests of 'the country, Mr Turner, in reply to the Premier, said personally he concurred in the motion. The House adjourned till Tuesday. . The Premier has accepted Mr Turner's reply as an indication that the Opposition support Mr Higgins want of confidence motion. The Government are confident of a majority.
Feb. 10. The bush fires are burnt out in some districts, but are still raging in others. The losses of grass, stock and property are enormous. There have been numberr of narrow escapes. Lovering and Johnson, the youths who created a sensation by confessed attempts to wreck trains and tamper With railway points, were each sentenced to three years, on th.c latter chajrge only.
Sydney, Feb. 10. Experiments were conducted at the Kandwick range, to test the statement of Mr Lascelles Scott, an eminent British chemist, that 4be smoke flash from smokeless powder is detectable through blue glass of a certain shade. The tests were
partially successful. Further and more elaborate tests are to be made, Brisbane, Feb. 11. The Government has decided to increase the naval forces of the colony by 45 per cent, and double the land forces. Military authorities consider that there be no difficulty at the present time of eoncetrating 30,000 Australian troops.
