A special meeting of the above was help last etening, present, His Worship the Mayor (chair) and Crs. Collett, O'Connor,Philip, Mann, Cameron, Inketer, and Sinclair, Apologies were received twin Messrs Colttnan knd Jones. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Corfe?pondenco was read :—: — From the Department of labour asking council to fix the usual half-holiday. Prom Hon. J. G. Ward asking council to take precautions against the probable occuirence of the bubonic plague. Fiom J. W. Wwrburton, enclosing balance sheet for hal* voar duly audited. Fiom G "Wibon, asking for an increase of sn'aiy on account of incieased work. — After discussion an inciease of £7 was gianted. From M. Kennedy, drawing attention to tbe depoait of rubbish an t old potatoes in Waimate cieek.— lt was agreed theie was a nuisance and it was rofpued to the Insnector to repoit. Mr Mann asked to have the Ingpacor of Nuisances leport on the keeping of pigs within the inner aiea, and thia was grants 1. • . It was proposed by Mr Sinclair and seconded by Mr Collett that the legal half holiday for tbe year 1900 be from one o'clock on Thursday. J. Williams was appointed dog tax collector on the same terms as last year. The clerk lepoited that 50 new dog collars would be needed. From H. It was decided to get 150 yds more shingle for Queen sheet. Public Bvrn. A letter was read from the Geralrhne bath committee saying tKat the cost of a kith would be about £150. His Worsh'p gave it as his opinion that tha question ot the baLh would never be settled till the council got an expeit opinion on the fcii'ojcct. It was decided to ask the headmaster oi the school to give notice to the children i that tiespasseis on the council's paddock would be prosecuted. His Worship brought up the question of the necessity of a fireplace in Victoiia Paik ioi the convenience of picnic paities. As an alternative it was suggested to get half a dozen bricks and a couple of iron bais. Councillor Inkster thought a fhenlace a needless expense. A boiler would still ha\e to be eaitad theie. All the councillors ga\e their opinions ou the question, most being in favour of it. Finally it svas decided that a iiieplacs be e^ecied in Victoiia Pa,ik, cosi not to exceed £3. It was decided to chaige 10 per cent interest a-* usual on oveidue lates Mi Champion waited on the council and asked that the manure depot be shifted.— It is impossible to accede to the request. Councillor Mann brought up the question of valuing the property in the Borongh. He thought a section in the middle of the town should pay moie than J.s mere glazing val'ie. The general opinion among the councillors was that Ihe valuation was low, and T he cleik was instructed to pie pare a careful valuation of tho borough. No action had bean takea regarding the cameis' fees. Accounts amounting to £81 13s lOd weia parsed for ja^ment.
-- DOMMN UOARD. Tho council then sat as a Domain Boaid After the minutes, .couespondence was lead — y Flora G. Y. Coehiane, stating that the oveiseer of the county was instructed to repoit on the road asked by the Domain Boaid. Fiom Booth and McDonald, quoting piice of windmill. The caretaker's report showed that the fish pond would bs finished by noxL meet ing. The Board are to visit it on Sunday next The balance sheet showed a credit balance in cash of £17, with outstanding rates amounting to £20. Accounts amounting to £4 3s 4d were passed aad the Board rose.
