Pabis, Dec. 17. M. Lockroy has introduced a bill in the Chamber of Deputies, providing for an expenditure of' ten millions sterling upon the fleet, and ten millions for coast defences and naval stations.

' Dee. 18. Mr Leake's dissolution motion was negatived. M* LTeatte an* nounced his intension to retire from politics. The Premier said that to have a dissolution now would mean two general elections next year. Parliament was then prorogued. Melbourne, Deo. 18. The Agent of the Eastern Extenf sion Coy., is advised that the laying of the Ascension- St. Helena section of tne Cape cable was completed on .Saturday. Brisbane, Dec. 18. The Chairman of the North Queensland Meat Company hag ofterpd the Premier £1000 in cash and £500 worth of meat for the Australian contingent. The offes has been accepted. A telegram was received t)y th§ Premier from the Mayor of Melbourne offering 250 horses from bis Queensland station for the use of the troops in the Transvaal. Efforts are being made to raise a battery of artillery.
