Henry Waltott Phillips; of Westport, has a petition before the House, praying that he may be rewarded for having been the inaugtirator of gold dredging on the Molyneanx river. He states that in company with one Benjamin Knight, he commenced dredging in 1864, at great expense to himself. Both Captain Hnssell and * r r McNab are absent from the House throuhg illness, ihe former is suffering from bionchitis, and the latter from an affection of his lungi. A month's leave of absence has been asked for Mr McNab. The Gothenburg system seems to be finding seveial adherents in the House, and from alf appearances this matter will be brought forwaid next Parliament. It is almost cei'tain that no legislation dealing with the licensing question will be passed this session. The appointment of an Inspector of Fisheries of the colony is under consideration by the Government, and possibly Mr Ayson, manager of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, will be appointed. It is stated that he has only recently returned from a trrp to the Old Country, during which he obtained valuable information regarding the fisheries of Europe and America. , * , Possibly the question of federation will be fully discussed one of these days, as fhe feeling is growing amongst members, that an opportunity ought to be afforded theTn of fully discussing this important subject. The Agricultural Department' fctates that the wattle plantation in the Waikato, is giving satisfactory results. The trees a) e growing splendidly, and 124 tnns of baik of, first cHss Quality wa«s stripped from them. The baik was' readily sold at 67 15s per ton. There srems to be a desire on the part of some of our fruit growers that the Orchard and Garden Pests Bill should be' passed this session. This is the third session in which an effort has been made to pass this measure. It is said that MoBill is modelled on' all that is best in font legislation throughout the world.

Mr Massey is asking whether, in view of the possibility of the' Inlperial Government requiring supplies of "forage "to ~bv~ deliveied in South Africa, the Minister of ' Industries and Commerce will inform the 1 Batish War Office that large quantities are available in this colony.
