Commercial. DUNEDIN MARKETS. (By Telegraph.) Dunedin, August 9.

Sheep. — Fewer sheep were yarded , than last week, the numbers being 2780 as against 3204. There was a general rise of fully Is a head. The wethers, as a whole t were better than have been seen in the yard for the last two or three weeks, more than one pen fetching 18s. The remainder averaged from Ik to 16s. There were not many ewes in the yard. Messrs D. Reid and Co. obtained 16s for a very prime pen, average prices 9s 6d to 11s 6d. Lambs. — Neither quality nor quantity were ' up to much, 152 being yarded. Mr J. Grindl«y realised 12s, 9d for a nice pen, and the remainder 1 fetched from 9s 9d to Us 9d. Pigs.— l 46 Were yarded this week as against 118 at fh'e last sale. Prices are still high. Quotations — Suckers 13s to IBs, slips 20a to 255, stores 28s to 345, porkers 35s tp 435, baconers 46s to 565, heavy pigs 58s to 655. All pigs wave sold in favouif of the vendors. There Was a good inquiry for store, slips,, and wtll-bred suckers. Cattle.— 24o head were yarded as against 224 last week. Prices were still poor, but exception must be made of a fine line sold bv Messrs Stronach Bros, and* Morris, Mr Strouach obtaining d£9 5s for a red bullock bred by Mr T. Smith, of Hook. The ordinary run of beasts fetched from £<k lOs to £1. Cows and heifers, on the whole, were poor, although there were a few fine beasts from Gladbrook and one or two other exceptions. The^ highest price realUed was £5 10s, the average price being from £3 to £4 10s.
