Football. (By Scrum.)
There was no football in Waimate last week owing to the ground being covered with snow. Several footballers however were very prominent in the snowballing contests on Monday, one especially putting in a good day's training. A return match will be played between North and South Canterbury at either Timaru or Temuka later in the season, i South Canterbury play Ellesmere district at Temuka next Saturday, when a good even game should be seen. | The English team are evidently in good form aa they are now winning all their matches. They defeated New South Wales by 11 to 5. There is now very little chance of them playing in New Zealand. Kaikoura, the champion team of, Dunedin journeyed to Christchurch and played Linwood, the champion team of North Canterbury on Saturday last. Linwood won by a try to nil, but owing to the wet ground there was not a good exhibition of football. The team to represent the 2nd fifteen to play against the school on Thursday : — Carpenter, Land, Manchester, Richards, Williams, Samuels (2), Pope, Jackson, Kilgour, Hobbs, Ellen, Cooper, Wilson, Nelson, Bennett, Joyce, Rattray, Valk, Golds ton 6 and Rogers.
