Innes- Jones, calling attention to the bad state of the road in front 1 of his house. — Overseer to report. Mr L-vall reported that, in comoany with Mr Rhodes, he had inspected the intake of the water-raca, Pareora, and the dam iga was being repaired. A county rate of 11-16ths of a penny in the £. and a harbour rate of 5-6ths were struck. The Lower Pareora 'Water-race Coimnittee wrote ctaiing that they were in favour of carrying on tho races without a ranger, und suggesting th.it the annual meeting be called as early as possible, to discuss the question of water muutenance gdtieially. — lie quest acceded to. It was decided that the Council take the necessary steps to have a fresh water-iaee committee appointed in the Lower Waihao witerune district, meeting to be held at G'enavy at 2 p.m. on a dat" to be fixed. From Mr Oottorill, A. McCulloch, R. Smifh, J. H. Andiews and W. Har rison, "Waihao asking to be supplied with watei Mr Henderson introduced Messrs Cochrnne, Hanison and McCnlloch, who expressed theinseKes as 'villiug to provide' the labour lor eariying through the race if Council appiov-id — These applications were granted, the others to stand o\er. A report was read from Mr Henderson stating that he did not think the dam in M'Lean's paddock should bj interfered with. H 5 a^ked that som » one be appointed to inspect Ihe head uoiks. No complaints had been re ceived, but if dry weather coutinued th re was sure to be a shortage. It was suggested that the overseer inspect the lace, but other metnbeis objected, as he had already enough work to attend to. Mr Henderson said he wanted to be relieved of the responsibility. There was no committee yet appointed. It was decided that tho overseer could go unofficially c and advise Mr Henderson if he cho^e. It was also resolved .that the chair man and Mr Henderson be a committee to inspect the Lower Waihao waterrace hendworks and have Ilium cleaned out if required. The overseer's report showed that he had inspected roulwiiere repairs w.n-e asked for bv Mr Shirley and others, Norton. About 40 chains required doing at once in the most thick lv settled part. — Tenders to be called for work. Had insp-cted road at Upper Pareora. applied for by Mr Nixon. The surfaceman could do the work. Had Wl the thistles cleared off the road as asked for by Mr Forrester and others. Had inspected the North Bush Bridge, and would not recommend a change of site. He enclosed the estimated the cost ot the new bridge. Mr Walker said the bridge would have to be done before long, and he thought the overseer should be m structed to procure timber. He would move in this d'rection. Mr Studholme seconded the motion, which was carried. Had" inspected the road at Hakatrtramea, going into Gibson Country, and he asked to be allowed to have piles placed at the edge of the road, to prevent falling stones breaking it away. In company with Messrs lihodes, H^rdie and Studholme, he had inspected the Makikihi ford. A protective fence was required, also a drain ooening up. — Work 10 be done. 'Had inspected the load where repairs were asked by Messrs Perry and Glen dinning, and would recommend that work be done.— This was decided. - Tenders were opened as follows : — No 333. metalling, Makikihi, R. White. .£37 10s ; T. Quinn, £51 10s. No. 335 : footbridge, near Garland's, C. Wilson, £4& 15s. The lowest tender was accepted in Nos. 333 and 335, fresh tenders to be called for No. 834 by Saturday week. tol>B accepted by town members. The present tenders were too much above the overseer's estimate. .
Mr Bussell waited upon the Council and asked that the road past Mr J. Green's, and towards Teschemakejp'e be formed. Overseer to report Accounts, arnoujitiag to M 2& Is 7d, ware passed.
