On Saturday evening last the wen on their work 3 were startled by the report Jihat a little boy aged three years, the child oi a Mr Jones, a new arrhal, had been musing sai-ce 2 p.m. Three search parties under Messrs Lucas, "McGUsban, 'Sutclift, and Mr Dixon, engineer, were at once organised, and the bush thoroughly examined. The j search was kept up till midnight without resuh. All went (except one or two who thought their work of more uioroe it than a hurnaa JUte), and the ground was otice more gone over ; every stuiup and rock was thoroughly, examined, men. crawling ou hands aud knees under!/ -the creepers and do ptiep over the towering clilT, expoctiag to see the pooi*' lrtfcle mangled body on the nver bedj'2s(J reel below. At last ,as a forloru hopy it was do«ided to search the ujbper and lower roads lead ing to Springiield, also the raihyay linfe as far back . as the little Kowai, and I am happy ,tp say that the.wee toddler wa3 found ~by Mr SutclriT sleeping' pjacefully. wader a large tuasock-j at a
place called Dry Creek, two rnilea along the line, none the worse for his 22 hours' exposure. How the little' chap crossed the cattle stops is a jvonder.
