Thov v/ero also arranging to open the inland ports, and were determined to hold China to her promise to permit an extension ot the Barma railway through Yunnau. He depreciated diolrusl of Itussia, but said that it was difficult to acquiesce in the Pokin i ail way, giving Russia dominating influence m Pekiu and precipilAtiug the disintegration ot China. Sir Edwaid Grey congratulated Mr Broduck ou his delimit; and busines-,-lilce suitement respecting China. He hoped that the acts of the Ilussi.iu and British agents would coive^nd to thu letter and bpint of tho vijws of the respective Governments.
