The minutes of last committee meeting was read and eon'irmed. A letter was read fiom an Ashburton trick bicycle uder offering to engage himself for the spoits on the 24th. The letter was recehed. Messrs W. ,1. Wills, C. Dash, and the seeietar> were appointed a deputation to the Foiesteis' Lodge and Caledonian Society, to arrange for improvements on Victoria Park tiack. It was decided to give the programmes to Mr P. llichard. Letters were read from se-veial persons consenting to assist at the conceit. The usual \ote brought the meeting to a close. At the foitnightly inspection pirade of the Wamiate Ilifles on Wednesday last, there was a good muster under Captain Goltman and Lieut. Tnkster. Lieut. - Col. Moore and Ad]utant Bourne inspected the company, and stated the plea sine it gave them to congratulate the company on their excellent work at the Easter camp. He had been assured by Noith Canteibury officers that the march past of the Wamiate Rifle was the best in the bugado. He aHo congiatulated the coips on their excellent shed, and on earning the full capitation, and hoped they would be as piosperous in the future as in the past. Seventeen membeis of the company had earned maiksman's badges, and Lieut. -Col. Moore presented them. Two new membeis were elected, and Private Cox' presented an enlarged photogiaph ot the company towards decoiatmg the oiderly room. An inquest was held at the Empire Hotel, Tnnaru, on Thursday, touching the death ot W. P. Grant, who was found dead in a bedioom of the hotel the previous morning. It appealed from the ewdence that deceased was found dead in a bedioom of the hotel, haung died while in the act ot undiossmg Di Thomas made a post mortem examination of the body, and found that death had been caused by an auouusm or dilated artery which had bur&t, sulfocation resulting. The jury returned a verdict that the deceased died from natural' causee. The funeral, which left the Empire Hotel on Friday for the cemetery, was very largely attended, a number journeying fiom W .innate. Deceased was \ cry popular in this district. He was 42 years of age, and leaves a widow to mourn his loss.
