THE LATE HOSPITAL MEETING.

(to the kmtor.) Sir, — On perusing the report of the last meeting of the Hospital Trustees, I cannot help noticing the peculiar attitude shown by one of its members, namely, Mr Atvull. I fail to see how this man or any other member of this trust can be allowed to assert that which is not true. I consider it behoves every individual member of this, or any other Board, to assert that which he knows only to be the truth, and not to assert that which results in flat contradiction. I notice you contradict him point blank, when he remarks that it is some other than one of your own staff that edits some or one of the articles contained in your esteemed paper. He also makes uncalled for attacks on Mr Petit, a highly respected and most worthy member of the Hospital Trust, a gentleman whom everyone must conscientiously admit has worked laboriously and successfully for the benefit of the Waimate hospital, an institution any town might well be proud of. And I wondei, therefore, how the subscribers can allow this Mr Atwill to retain his seat on the Board after your direct denial to him in your leading article dealing with the report of the last meeting of this Boaid. — I am, etc., 7/4/99. Observer.
