The nevl p.irt witnessed was the pip^B de resistance, a (Ivumii entitle'l "The Irish Hei'oine." Thw piece is, to quote the expi'essui'i of one 1 pvewrti at thi 1 rehearsal, '• reul Irish," and U tlioreforp peculiarly appropriate for pr>ifoi'rwrti/(?e on Ireland's day of days. Thp plot of the play is simple. Philip O'Toole, after 1 fiQ'htin^ b'-aveh . is taken prisoner, ancf condemned to death. His betrothed, Emily, although against the wish of her uncle, remains faithtul to Philip, and trie-> to devise some plan by winch his 63cape could be mi'ia^ud within tho fortnight th it has to elapse before tha dpath warrant arrives. She has in hei' service an lush {>irl nnmed Lizzy, who hay a lover an under-jailer in the prison in which Philip O'Toole is awaiting death. She has been angry with him for taking this situation, but now discovers in it a way out of the difficulty. Her mistress takes a vacant situation a« servant to the head -jailer, and has thus opportunities of speaking with her beloved. How the death warrant is stolon from the messenger bv Emily, and how in the time thus gained the escape is effected may best be r >ahsed by witnessing the play. A good deal of amusing bye play is introduced, the whole piece runs with the greatest smoothness and given fine weather it should attract a large audience,
