Bad Weather in America.
New York, February 14. Many of the schools throughout America have been closed, m consequence of the childion being unable to face the cold and snowdrifts. Operatives remim m many of the factoues, which are warmer than their own houses. The heavy snowfall in New York almost stopped business. The i<nl\\a\s and trams are blocked, and the harbour filled with ice. Vessels aie unable to enter, The White Star hnor Geimame, lying at New York pier, was overweighted by ice collected on the decks, and the coal suddenly listed. Water ponied into the port-holes and the vessel sank.
February 15. One hundred thousand people aie in a starving condition in New York. The orange and fimt crops m the Southern States are ruined. Several of the great Atlantic liners have reached New York five days late. They report terrible weather. Half of Washington is threatened with starvation. New York has been isolated since Monday by land and sea. The ferries are useless. The price of coal has doubled. Traffic is now being resumed.
