The World's Crops.
Statistician Hyde, of the United States Agricultural department, has completed the official statistics of the ciops of the wot Id, and a revised renew of the world's wheat is an important feature. Thus the Eussian wheat ciop is now put by the Ministry of Agriculture at 417,000,000 Winchestei bushels, an increase of 30,000.000 bushels over the Hungarian official estimate. An estimate, believed to be below rather than above the actual yield, is ciedited to the Hungarian Agnculture Minister, estimating the Hunganan wheat crop at 132,277-200 bushels of 601b. An estimate, laid to be the preliminary ofliciaj one, puts the German wheat crop at 8,000,000 bushels more than the 1897 eiop, making it in round numbers 115,000,000 bushels of 001b. The official estimate of the Italian wheat ciop pats it at 122,271,900 Winchester bushels. The latest estimates of the Spanish wheat ciop aie a little loss than 97,000,000 Winchester bushels. The London Times estimates the wheat crop of the United Kingdom, at 77,900,000 Winchester bushels, consideiably in excess of ths estimate a month ago, The official estimate for Roumama make* its ■wheat crop 58,456,904 Winchester bushels. Official figures for Manitoba givei its wheat wop at 26,728,808. Preliminary official figui as make the oi op of Ontario 33.028,790. As the wheat aiea of the more eastern provinces was much larger than in recent years, it seems likely that the total for Canada will reach the highest of last month's estimates — 63,000,000 Imperial bushels. Austiaha has suffered from drought, but that is now broken. If the Austialian wheat crop should fall short ot the Bioomhall estimates, the largest, it may, in any case, equal oi perhaps exceed the veiy moderate estimates of the other two authorities last month. The Bioomhall estimate was 51000,000, and the Hungarian estimate only 37,000,000 bushels of GOIb, while the estimate oi the Bull«tm dea Hallcs -was 87,000,000 Winchester bushels. SeTeie frosts have been repotted from Aigen* tina, but the latest accounts as to the outlook foi the wheat crop in that country were not favourable. As to the other crops, the estimate for Fiance foi barley is 52,167,766 bushels; oats, 299,059 074 bushels. The provisional estimate of the Russian agricultural mdustiy gives in Winchester bushels — Wintei wheat, 141,639,000; spung wheat, 27,3,811,000 ; lye, 717,786,000 ; barley, 320,141,000; oats, 606,861,000; maize 42,759,000 bushelb In Austna the cerea] crops aie generally eatisfactoiy. The barley crop was somewhat indefinite in quantity and in cjuahty, but the kernels was mostly full, heavy, and of good colour.
