There were quite 2000 people in Victoria Park, being taken at the gates, The morning train brought a great number from Timaru and Oamaru. The public greatly appreciated the seats lately placed round the track, and they were fully occupied during the day. The track was in Very fair order, but the west end is insufficiently banked, and one or two nasty falls took place there. The various cycle races showed how strong a hold this form of sport has upon the public, the excitement being intense and the applause deafening as C. Hollamby rode hi as winner of the mile, two mile local, and three mile, when be earqe a close second in the mile and a half, and. when he shot out from the pack to take third place in the five mile,, llollamby is a maiden rider with good staying and spurting powers, and it he is well trained should be heard of later on. The running throughout the day was well up to tlie mark. The publican's booth wm in charge of Mr Binney, and the confectioner's in that ot Mr Jyliller, and both did a good trade.
