Brass Bands Contest. Dunedin, DEC.27.

The annual contest of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association was commenced today with the quickstep competition. The five bands assembled on the Octagon and played to the Caledonian ground, where about 3000 persons were present, Jligfyt bands had entered, but only five competed. The result was as follows :-— Quickstep competition tost march " The Gladiator " for cash priges and points in the Wesson Shield competition ; bands to be judged on music, marching and drill,- ' Squtb Canterbury Battalion Band, drill 78, musio 29, total 107, 1. Wellington Garrison Band, drill 70, music 30, tqtal 100. 2, Kukorai, drill 69, musio 00, total 19, 3. North. Tfye bands plo-ydd the aecoud test piece " Falqtaff," aad d'nishad playing about 10 o'clock, b,ut it was 11 o'clock before the judge, Mr J. Otto Schwatz, announced his decision.
