Waituna School.
i v .-! The annual treat of the Waituna Creek school took place on Friday, the 16th. The weather was showery in the morning, but it cleared oft, and the sun dispersed the clouds and ensured perfect wether for the remainder of the day. Pj^enteand, children mustered in force,
and what made the event more gladsome and joyful, the " Oldsters " ( turned up in strong numbers. Matrons, who had ■themselves received the rudiments of education within the walls of the school, were present and witnessed their progeny going through the same formalities they themselves had gone through in far back years. Many oldsters were present upon whom the master had laid his afflictinc
hand or had tried to coax and lead through the varying phases of the Standard regulations. The following is the prize list. Standard VI : Evelyn Beckett 1, Dor* Mehrtens 2; standard V: Wm. Prior to the m - Vmg out the prises, which were performed by Mrs Gibson, the Key. McK. Gibson delivered an address to the children. Mrs Gibson warmly complimented the girls on the excellency of their sewing. The thanks of the committee"' are tendered to the following ladiea and gentlemen for favours conferred-— Mesdames Vigers, Newton, W. Meyer Patterson, senr^, Jas. Patterson, Mi 3g 3 g M'Dufi and H. Franklin, as donors of special prizes. To Mrs Gibson and Miss Anderson for kindly judging the sewing, and the Rev. McK. Gibson for his address, and last, but not least, that staunch and fervent friend of the school Mr F. Westphal senr. must not be forgotten, but for whom the programme of sport which was carried out would have been as it were not. In the evening a few of the oldsters wound up the days' • amusement by a dance.
