Anniversary Day.

Friday rnor ning broke bright and clear 1 , and everyone made preparations for spending the day pleasantly. 1 here was no lack of sport and amusements, the school breaking-up ceremony, a cricket match, a tennis match, and a day out for* volunteers (which included a match with the City Rifles and a ladies' match) all taking place. Besides this, there were several private picnics,' so that all Waimate was on amusement bent. About ten o'clock the sky clouded, and a heavyrain began to fall, and it was thought . there would be an unpleasant day. But the rain passed off, and the rest of the day was most pleasant.
