ENTERTAINMENT.
On Monday evening last, Dr Barclay gay« a graphophone entertainment to the members of the Oddfellows' Lodge in their Hall. Invitations had been extended to several members of the Foresters' Lodge, and to Several other ladies and* gentlemen, so that about 80 persons were; presfeht. The graphophone, which the doctor brought with him from 'Frisco, is a" very good one, and every item of a very large number was distinctly heard. One df the Comparative failures of the grap'hophondj the entertainer explained, was itt inability to correctly, record a fema'e voice. One record he had, however, which was fairly good. At intervals between the Selections songs were sung by Messrs Coltman and Goldstone, who were accompanied on the piano by Mr C. F. Collins. Mr Coltman sang " The Carnival " and " Out on the Deep " into the graphophone, and these items were immediately reproduced, this being a feature of the nigh,t's entertainment. Dr Barclay very courteously explained the working of the instrument to those present. Supper was laid in the ante room, and before it ,was announced a hearty vote of thanks to th& doctor and the singers was proposed by P.Gr.M., Bro. Asquith, seconded by P.G., Brd. Shacldeton, and carried by acclamation. After supper, the graphoploae played and several of those present tried to dance to the mus'c, bnfc it was hardly loud enough. Mis Winkfield, Miss Freeman, and Mr Collins therefore took turns at the piano for three or four 5 dances, which were greatly enjoyed. Afc 11.30 cheers were given the doctor for the night's amusement and the gattierifig dispersed. ; , v
