HANNATON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (BY OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
A meeting of the Hannaton School Comtrittee took place on Monday evening. There were present — Messrs Keogh, Campbell, Melton, Fox, Leen, and Eeilly. Several i ems were passed for payment. A vote of hanks was proposed to lir Eeilly for oaiting shingle. The inspector's report was considered very satisfactory. It was decided to '.lose ior •Christmas holidays on December 22nd, and le-open on Januaiy 31st, 1899. It «as pioposed to inspect the school gardens with the view to awarding the special piizes •offered by Mesprs Eeilly, Leen, and Melton for best kept gardens. The following is a, copy of the inspector's report : — "Examination report on Hannaton Public School, examined 6th October, 1898. Presented : 27 in pieparatory, 48 in standards ; passed, 48. Class Subjects — Giainmar; Excellent An Standards V and VI ; good in Standards 111 and IV. History: Satisfactory in Standards IV, V, VI; fair in'Standardlll. Elementary Science: Satisfactory in Standards 111, IV, V, VI. Object Lessons : Fair. Mental Aiithmetic: Good. Additional Subjects — Repetition and Becitation: Excellent in Standards II ; good in Standards I, 111, IV, V, VI. Diill and Exercises: Satisfactory. Singing: Fair in seniors; inferior ia juniors. Needlewoik : Good. Comprehension of Language and Eeading Lessons.: Satisfactory ia Standards II ; fair in Standards I, V, and VI ; moderate in Standards 111 and IV. Preparatory Class : The pieparatory pupils are good in reading, spelling, and tables, and -satisfactory in writing. The pupils of Standards I and II were very well, piepared, and earned their promotion with eiedit. General Bemarks i This school has passed a. highly satisfactory examination. Among the pass subjects, arithmetic, spelling, composition, «nd geography, were most creditable; wiiting and diawing have been carefully taught, and reading, though lacking in style, was vigorous And distinct. -* The class -and additional subjects had received full attention with satisfactory results over aIL In the former group", grammar was of •exceptional merit, and in the latter recitation deserves mention.
