This annual show was held on Tuesday last ou the Association's grounds. Although a cold breeze was blowing most of the time the weather was fine and a large numbei of people attended from the town .and country, while many came by tram. There was an increase of 14 in the total number of exhibits, 263 as against 249, but this wgs due to the largely increased number of implements shown, 83 against -42. It will be noticed from the prize list that most of the larger landholder? have been the only ones to enter, those owning perhaps one or two horses thinking themselves unable to compete against men owning a large number. There is one ■award for cow owned by person not ownor occupying more than ten acres, and we think this plan might with advantage be ■extended with regard to horses and pigs. "We would suggest to the Committee that this be taken into consideration before next show. With the settlement going on around, and some special attention to the small farmers, the Waimate show could be made o£ much greater interest to the public at large. Inside the grounds were ■tents containing various farming implements, etc. Messrs Manchester Bros, had a large teut containing a display of '.house furnishing and glassware tastetully -arranged. All the officials worked well to make the fixture a success, leaving nothing to chance. We have to acknowledge with thanks the courtesy extended to the press bv the secretary (Mr -A. M. Taa&e). The Waimate Brass Band played selections throughout the day.- Mr S. Binney had the publican's booth, and Mr W. Miller the confectioner's, both appeariug to do good business.
