TENNIS.

A team from the "Waimate Tennis Club visited Oamaru on the 9th to try conclusions with the Hill Club there. After partaking of lunch provided by the horn« club, play was at once the order of the day, and the men's singles were got off. Messrs Mathias and Collett were in excellent form, followed closely by Messrs "Wake and Akhurst who all won their Bets with plenty to spare. The unexpected always happens, and the visitors proved •the victors in the singles by 18 games. A •start was then made with the men's doubles and in these the Hill Club were too good for Waimate, winning all the sets, although Messrs Mathias and Pitcaithly made a very close game. Mrs Pitcaithly -and Miss L. Manchester then met'Misse* A. McDonald and Jones, and made an excellent stand. The totals proved the Hill Club the winners by 4 games. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the Hill Club and a most enjoyable day was spent, the Waimate team returning home thoroughly pleased with the outing. The following are the results :—: —
