A Meeting of the Waimate Variety Company was held on Tuesday evening in the Library Hall. Mr J. L. Harwood was in the chair. TJie meeting was called to consider the question of giving a second minstrel perfoimance. It was wished to give one performance in Aid oi the widow of the late T. Cleary., one in aid of the Cricket Club ,and one in aid of the Band. After a long discussion the Cucket Club's benefit was postponed and the Band decided to waive its claim in favour oi Mi s Cleary . Mr Harwood thanked those who had taken part in the last performance and the meeting ended.
Waimaib Quadkille Assemble. — The hall given by the above to wind-up their season took place on Thuisday evening. The Oddfellows' Hall was prettily decorated with flags and eveigieens and the walls were nicely diaped and hung with fairy lamps. Foity couples took pait m the Giand March, to th« music of Messis JQangdown (viohn) and Collins (piano). Messrs Prank and Jas.. Piayton.acted as MjC.'i. Refreshments were provided by Mr W. Miller. In an interval between the dances, Mr C. J. Goldstone, on behalf of the Assembly, presented Mr Frank* JDrayton, who had been M.C. throughout the season, with a set of gold sleeve links, as a lecognition of the value of his services. Mr Ooldstone said these services had been given gratuitiously and membeis felt grateful to Mr Prayton for his share in such a succestful season. Mr Drayton briefly responded. Dancing was resumed and kept up till halfpast one, this being the last dance of the year, but .not the least enjoyable> Great credit is due to the hon. secretary (Mr W. Banks) who worked indefatigably throughout the whole season, .and who left nothing undone to make all enjoy themselves.
A case of ■window-breaking comes before the Court to-day.
A Meeting of the Ladies' Benevolent Society was held on Wednesday afternoon, present — Mesdames Studholme (chair), Goldsmith, Adams, Smith, Franklin, Wake, Jonea and Gibson, acting sec. Mrs Sinclair (sec.) 'Bent an apology. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed and the balancesheet received and passed. It was resolved to hava 100 copies of the rules of the Society printed. Four cases for -relief were disousied *nd help granted. Mtgd&mes Manchester and
tjfoson were -appointed Tisitors for fhsinoiifh. The leport for the year past showed that the Society had received in members subscriptions the sum of -£l6 3s and had, during the year, spent the sum of £55 18s 3d in helping th« •diitreased cases in the distiict, by pajing rents and providing wood And goods. The Society would remind any who are disposed to help it that by becoming members or sending any donations they may be disposed to give they will be helping the Society to assist the poor and needy, Mb E. Capstick leaves for "Vancouver on Wednesday, fie goes with the mails. A Meeting of those interested in forming-a -Junior Cricket -Club in Waimate will *h* held in the Libraiy Hall on "Monday evening.
