WAIMATE HOSPITAL BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Wednesday afternoon ; present — Messrs Douglas (chair), Sinclair, Coltman, Petit, Nicol, Atwill, Lyall and Dr Burns. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Messrs Hertslett and Carlisle" Studholme were appointed Trustees in place of Messrs Hardie and Murphy, resigned. Correspondence was read from the Hon Major Steward with reference to the Separate Institutions Bill now before Parliament. The petition drafted by Mr Hamilton for circulation in the Waimate district was read. It was decided that the chairman go to Wellington to do what he can in support of the petition, if he could get away, that he be empowered to appoint a substitute if necessary. The visitors for the month reported "that everything at the Hospital was satisfactory. Messrs Atwill and Coltman were Appointed visitors for the ensuing month. The Matron and Surgeon's reports were read. The latter showed that 9 patients had been admitted, and 9 discharged during the month, leaving 7 under treatment.
Bicyclist (to friend) : "I am going to give up riding, and I will sell you the machine if you like. It is a beauty, and you have can it for £15. It only weighs twenty-five pounds." Friend : Not me ; why a man down the street oftered me a bicycle for and it weighs forty pounds. The Advertiser is read by everybody. Advertisers take note. Uncle David thinks that a dictionary is the most useless book printed. He says that you can't find out by it how to spell a word unless you know how to spell it in the first place. This remark was made after an hour's search among the " k's " for the word " kwiet." The Advbrtishr for Job Printing. At a Northern River race meeting recently, a gold watch was offered as a prize for the worit looking woman on the ground. The judge (a local man) nominated his own wife, and to the surprise of evtrybne awarded her the prize. His screams after he returned home were awful. — Sydney Truth.
