By advertisement it will be «een that Mr J. E. Millar, watchmaker, etc., of Timaru, opens a temporary »hop in Waimate ntxt week. Mr Millar is -prepared to do all kinds of electro-plating in addition to the ordinary work of a watchmaker.
Thb Lbft Wing.— The Left Wing, though a small Party numerically, is evidently determined to make itself recognised ai a dUtinot Party in the House. Last •veniug, when the Premier and Captain Bus»ell had explained their positions and the positions of their sespectir* Parties in connection with Saturday's stonewall on the Old Ag« Pemion Bill, Mr Pirani also rose to speak. The Chairman of Committee wished to rule him out of order, remarking that it was merely extending the usual courtesy to the leaders of the two Parties in tht House, by allowing them to make the personal explanations just heard •when another matter was before the chair. Mr Pirani, however, in«»ted that his Party (the Left Wing) had been misrepresented in the matter, and he claimed the right to speak, and had the right conceded, -Post.
Studholme Okicket Club. — Ths opening match of the abov« club took place on Saturday last. Theie was a good attendance of members and visitois. Befoie commencing play, Mr J. Jacobs was made the leeipient of & bat and ball, won by him for the best batting and bowling average dm ing the past ■season. Sid«s w«ie chosen by the captain and seeretaiy and a swatch match played, lesultmg in a win for the foimer by three runs, .scores : 70 and 07 respectively. Some promising foirn was shown and the club should have a stronger eleven this year. Atternoon tea was kindly dispensed to all by Me&dameiMcPhtison, Mann, Williams, Foley and Foid and thiee cheeis foi the ladie* closed a veiy tnjoyable afteinoon at the giand old game of cricket. Tha business at the Tuesday evening meeting of the Social and Debating Club Ayas the reading of the magazine. The membeis had contubuted a number of mteie&ting onginal *rticles, advertisements, jokes, veisus, etc., which the editor had auanged. in pleasing style ; the reading and subsequent discussion made a veiy enjoyable meeting. On next meeting night the mtmbeis will each bring a fziend to help in the business of a fruit social which will terminate the session.
Oddfellows.— The iiunmoned meeting of the Loyal He«,it of Fllen.dsb.lp w»b held on Monday cvtning, N.G., Bro. Swan in the chair. Theie was a fan attendance of merabeis. A large amount of conespondence was lead from vanous biotheis, the Oamani Lodge (Independent Older), with lefeience to admitting a brothei heie ; from the Dibtuct Lodge, notifying that the notice of motion tabled was earned, that for the future all •single members will receive -the full amount of funeral donation (£3O) the same as mained membeis ; also the deputy nominated (D.P. Bro. Asquith) for P.G.M. The sick visitor*' repoit showed that two members weie on the fundi ; £3 10s sick pay was passed. It vras resolved that a letter of condolence bo sent to th« widow of the late Bio. Cleary. The usual funeial allowance was passed. It was resoived that all future summoned meetings be advertised in the Waimate Advertised. Receipts for the evening amounted to £23. The usual toa*ts were given and responded to by visiting brothers, and the Lodge clos«d with <l Piiendehip, Love, and Tiuth."
Thebe •were two printers' srrors in the correspondence by Mr W. M. Hamilton in onr lust week's i&sut. l< Making hay without straw " should be " making bricks without straw." The fee of 10s would be beneficial should be " would be sufficient."
The QuJidrillt Assembly holds a, grand ball to wind up its season on Thursdaj evening next. The arrangements have been most elaborate and a fitting wind-up to a successful season may be «xpected. Tickets are selling fast. A meeting of members will be held in Miller's coffee room* on Tuesday evening to make final preparations.
A. and P. Association. — The following horses will parade at the ihow grounds to-dny at two o'clock : — Draughts— Good Times, Prince Victor, Prince Alfred, Silverstream, Prince Consort, Emperor, Salisbury's Prince, Young Pinole Patchen. Thoroughbred — Exile. Trotting — Director. It is moit unfortunate that utter the date of Waimate's p*r*de had been fixed Timaru should have altered their data by neven days *nd Oamaru by one day. It looks to us like trying to crush the Waimate Show. Thb usual fortnightly parade of the Waimate Eifle Volunteer* was held on Wednesday evening, about 40 members being present:
