In reply to Elsie, St. Andrews, two ladies send the blackberry stitch for knitting a shawl.
No. 1. For a good-sized shawl, cast 'on 282 stitches. First row purl, second row slip one, knit the next stitch into three, then put forward the thread and take three stitches together, put the needle in the same as for purling for the three together.
No. 2. Cast on any number of stitches that will divide by four. First row, purl three stitches together, make three stitches out of one. Second row, purl. Third row, makethree out of one stitch, purl three stitches together. Fourth row, purl. In reply to H.K.L., "Waimate, Kate sends the following for icing cakes : — Three cups of white granulated sugar, one cup of water, boil to a clear syrup ; beat the whites of four eggs to stiflt froth, pour into hot syrup, stir frequently while cooling. The cake should be cold before it is iced. Jean enquires for recipe for good gingerbread. Mary, Waihao, asks if any of the lady readers of the Advertiser would oblige by letting her have the recipe for a plain currant loaf.

Five cans of fish were taken from the Acclimatisation Society's ponds, Waimate, and liberated near M'Culloch'u bridge by Mr J. Sinclair on Thursday. Two cans were also sent to Wain's, Waihaorunga.
