Waimate Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting was held on Monday evening ; present — Nieol (chan), Sinclair, O'Connor, Petit, Cameron, Coltman and Inkster, An apology was received from Dr. Barclay, and he asked that his notice of motion be not allowed to drop. The minutes of last meeting were road and -confhmed. " The Inspector waited on the Council and ■ma.de his report. He said there was a man who owned cows and kept them over night in a place a few feet squaie. It was a menace to health and he asked for instructions. He had visited the Paik and found that theie was a broken place in the fence. This was repaired and theie was now no danger of cattle getting in. It was decided to send a letter to the cowowner,.and if nuisance was not abated to take proceedings. Correspondence was read as follows :— Prom Salvation Army, thanking Council for donation. — Eeceived. Fiom Eailway Department, acknowledging receipt of deeds re railway diam. — Eeceived. From Commissioner of Tai.es, stating that £83 3s, Government subsidy, had been paid. — Eeceived. From Hon. W. J. Steward, enclosing particulars of woiking of water-gas at Danovirke. — Eeceived. From C. A. Wilson, proprietor of the 'VVaimate Aj>vj?bti&eb, asking for a share of "the Council's adveitising and punting. — Request acceded to. From secretaiy of Waimate Volunteer Fire Brigade, asking foi another water-tank, as the present ones would in some cases be too far apart. Held over till next meeting to see what •tejps would be taken in regard to a watersupply. The balance-sheet was read and comment was made upon the discrepancy an the estimates and actual expenditure. Councillor Sinclair thought that if they went in for moie asphalting they would have good footpaths instead of shingling constantly. He thought it would be an advantage to asphalt paths a good way out of the town. Councillors generally thought it was a good plan and a gieat deal of dtscussion took place on the subject, but nothing definite was done. In regard to crossings which lequired doing it was said that the crossings in Waimate geneially weie better than in any town in the colony. The Clerk -was instructed to get bad crossings fixed by owners. It was mentioned that the night-cart was left outside every night, and that the second iron had been removed from the turnstile at the park. — Clerk to attend to both matters. The matter of cutting out the tiees in the Victoria Park was brought up. Membeis said they had been spoken to about cutting out the trees, some people thinking it was not right. — It was agreed that Councillors visit the Park on Thursday. Accounts amounting to £49 5s 7d were passed for payment. The Council then sat as a Domain Board. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Caietaker's report was read. He repoited having received plants from Oamaru and Timaru Gardens.

A vote of thanks was passed to the donors. A notice of motion was read from Dr Burday that the gate at the park-keeper* house be opened for vehicular traffic. After discussion the matter wae held over till next meeting. Accounts amounting to £10 Is 2d were passed and the Board rose.

A Whole Windowful of Bows and Ties is not often seen, but such is being shown in Shxckleton & Gbant's windows, and is one of -the best shows of ties ever seen in Waimate, both in colours and designs, and are being sold at half their ordinary value, those worth from Is to 3s, one special lot being sold at 3d each. An editor stabbed a man with a pair of scissors the other day. It is dangerout to interrupt some men when writing editorials. _ w
