From the Secretary South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board asking rateable value of . Council and that the first half of the maintenance be forwarded in June, and the second in December. He also forwarded the opinion of ihe Board's solicitor as to the validity of the Hospital Trustees. An opinion was r«ad from Mr Hamilton ."upholding the Trustees on the ground of custom. Finally it was resolved on the motion of Messrs Inkster and Cameron — " That this as a contributory body to the South .Canterbury Hospitals and Charitable Aid "Board,, views with regret the deadlock existing 'between the two Boards, and would respectiully suggest to Ihe Hospital Trustees the ad•visability of petitioning Parliament to terminate the conflict of opinion that has now existed between the two bodies for over six years, jby proclaiming such a portion of the *Waimate tCounty a separate district for hospital and

charitable aid purposes, in such manner that the funds derived from rates collected on the present basis will fully meet the repuirements of the institution." It was resolved that & copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Tiu'stees. _ The estimates for the current year were read and approved. The Clerk asked that the Council pay interest on his fidelity bond, £2 per year. Request granted. It was decided to have the large stones cleared off High street, from Manchester's corner to the cemetery. Accounts amounting io £88 4s lOd were passed. The Council then sat as a Domain Board. The Caretaker's report was read. He mentioned that a culvert was needed to enable traps to cross the gully near entrance and also that he was engaged in making two flower beds in front of his house. It was resolved to erect culvert. A long discussion took place on the subject of driving through the park, but nothing dcfinite was done. It was resolved that the price of pine firewood in the park, be 7s. per cord. Accounts amounting to £11 2s 4d were passed and the meeting adjourned.
