Wednesday, Dec. 18. The market for breadstuff's unsettled. The principal shippers decline to enter into contracts for forward deliveries of wheat. Some of the farmers whose crops have failed have applied to the Government for, the wherewith to purchase seed wheat.' No definite reply has yet been returned. Parliament has given Ministers full powers to act herein as circumstances may appear to demand during the recess. , Thursday, Dec. 19. The market for breadstuff's is inactive. The crops will not be so bad in some districts as was at first represented. • . Friday, Dec. 20. J-iiere is an absence of animation in cereals. Holders of stocks profess great conndc-nce m the maintenance of the advance which has been established. At the races to-day— For the Derby EfgaJik, 1 ; Corsair, 2. For the Shorts— Flying/ Fish won both heats, but he was declared disqualified on its appearing that he wqjs a pound short of his weight. Fisnenman, who was second, web consequently decided to be the winner.
The Trial Stakes were won by Cupbearer. The Selling Stakes— Skylark, 1 ; Handicap; 2 ; Midnight, 3 ; Apparition, 4. For the Steeple Chase none would take the weight. Forced Handicap— Medora, 1 ; Midnight, 2. Frightful bush fires have taken place in the district of Stockport and vicinity. It is reported that crops for thirty miles square have perished.
