Boxing Day was strictly observed at tho slnpping end of the town. The Custom House was closed, and together with merchants and shipping agents' offices, and no business of any kind was transacted on the wharf. The tide was not worked as nothing hove in sight outside to tempt the harbor boats from their moorings, and no outward bounder was ready for sea. Even the Bruco's departure was postponed until this morning, when she leaves for Fox's and the B idler. Tho brigantiue Hannah Newton, from Sydney, arrived at Dunedin on the 20th instant. The s.s. Otaso with the English Mails, left Dnnediu for Molboume the same day.
