A Bye-law to regulate the driving of Horsesand horned Cattle through tho Town of Hokitika, and to prevent the danger arising from loose Horses straying in tho said Town. WHEREAS it is expedient, for the safety of the Public, to regulate the driving of loose Horses and unyoked horned Cattle through the' inhabited portions of tho Town of Hokitika. Be it therefore ordered and direoted by the Council of the said Town, by virtue of the authority in them vested, that from and after the Ist day of January, 1868, no loose Horso or unyoked Cattle, whether intended for sale or slaughter, or when passing from one part of tho country to another, or for any other purposes whatevor, shall be driven along, across, into, or through any Terrace, Square, Street, Lane, Court, Alley, or any inhabited portion of the Town of Hokitika, excepting between the hours of Ten of the o'clock at Night and Eight of the clock in the Morning ; and every person who shall drive, or cause or suffer to be driven, any Horse or horned Cattle, contrary to this Bye-law, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence any sum not exceeding Ten Shillings for each and every Horse or head of horned Cattle so driven. Provided that nothing herein contained shall be held to extend lo any Milch Cow, or to any horned Cattle in yoke, when going to or returning from depasturing or watering.
