EXPOET3,

Per Harriett Nathan, for Hobart Town — 203 hi Icp, Dyson ; 192 hides, 400 sheepskins, T.Peii.

The 5.3. Airedale arriven off Greymouth yestcrJay afternoon, and, we presume, was tendered there upon last night's tide. She doubtless arrived in this roadstead during the night, and is to be dispatched this morning, direct to Sydney. Besides bringing in the June Lockhart, the good tug Challenge towed out the cutter Elizabeth yesterday morning. The Yarra ran out with the schooner Ouclmnga, tho latter bound to Dunetlin. The bar was reported as excellent, tea feet being the least depth of water found upon it. But inside the bar the channel is rendered most unsafe and difficult to navigate by the remains of tho Gratitude's ■wreck, which, contrary to expectation, has not sunk in the sand, and therefore forms a very dangerous obstruction to shipping, besides acting as :i prevent itive to the desired deflection of tlse channel south, and the consequent make-up of the North Spit in the same direction. A Harrow sand-bank — the effect of tho eddy created by the wreck — runs for some distance below it, and divides tho river, tho main body of the water, however, being on tho north side, and thus the present straight run out is maintained, and -tho formation of the North Spit checked. It U the opinion of many practical men that another charge of powder would clear tha channel, and wo certainly think that the Government should try the experiment, involving as it does so little expense. In consequence of the partial silting up of the old gouth channel tho lagoon water has been diverted round the inner side of the large sand-bank that separates the two outlets, and nt low tide joins the river about tho Gratitude's remains. We notice that vigorous moasures aro in progress to encourage the Korth Spit's growth, several rows of fascines having been placed on the low beach formed round it. Whilst regarding this evidence of tho Government's care and forethought with great satisfaction, wo cannot but regret that so little attention is paid to the principal c.tuso of the spit' 3 non-formation.

The Harriett Nathan finished discharging yesterday, and got her ballast on board ready for sea. Sho leaves on this evening's tide, for Hobart Town, there to take in another cargo of produce, with which we hope she will bs no less fortunate than with tho one just landed. Save and except one bale of chaff, the wholo of it turned out in good order. The schooner Mary Stewart, from Melbourne, arrived at Greymouth on Friday last. Sao has been more fortunate on her upward than hsr downward trip, which, it will be remembered, was very much protracted by ba:l weather. The Mary Stewart left Melbourne on the 10th instant.

The brigantino Jane Lockhart was towed in by the Challenge yesterday morning, and made fast to tho wharf a short distance below the Transit shed. Wo noticed that her decks ■were full of live stock — pigs, poultry, &c. —all looking uncommonly well, as they had baen subjected to a short sea trip only, the Jane having run across from harbor to harbor in something under ten days. She experienced fine, mofierai-c weather during the pasango, the first three da\ s of which was marked by variable winds and occasional sharp but short squalls ; s( eady W(>et and S. W. win'ls prevailed during tho latter part r»f iho run. Sho left Sydney on the 13' h, and reached tho roadstead on the 21st, but, having so much live-stock on deck, the captain thought they would fare better if tho vessel was kept under canvas than if she w;i3 anchored in the jumping sea then running. Ho accordingly made for the offing, and, as we related yestunlay, was picked up by (ho Chsillengo about ten miles north. The Wane Jjoaklrirt brings up a full general cargo. We notice that ahe is advertised to leavo for Sydney on tho 27th inst.
