Monday, Dec. 9. It is reported that Mr Yale, the confidential clerk of Messrs Martin and Tontil, has disappeared. Goodridge, the murderer, has arrived in Adelaide, en route for the stockade.
A proposition has been made to erect a Sailors' Home at Port Adelaide.
Returns from the District Councils show an excess of emigration over immigration.
Commercial business is slowly progressing. Moonta shares are in demand ; wheat and flour are rising, but there are few transactions.
Tuesday, Dec. 10. The entrances for the ensuing Thebarton races are very scanty. Ifc is said that the Insurance Company has refused payment of the claim-of Bean Brothers, whose stock was destroyed by fire.
The examination of the proprietors of the " Register resulted in nothing ; should ulterior proceedings be taken they have resolved to stand by their principles with regard to the alleged broach of privilege. Little commercial business doing — merchants awaiting the arrival of the mail. The quotations for wheat are nominal, no qusiness doing under 6s ; flour— the town millers are asking Llo to Ll6. Wednesday, Dec. 11. The weather squally. A special commission has been appointed by Council to investigate the cause of the rust and other diseases in cereal crops.
The Chief Secretary stated in Council thaL the rejection of the Public Purposes Loan Bill would cause the cessation of all public works during the ensuing year. The privilege question is still exciting discussion.
The sec ncl reading of the Advertisement Bill was carried, to prohibit all Government advertisements appearing in any papers but the " Gazette."
The corn market is firm. No wheat offering. Four, Ll4 10s to Llo 10s. There are few transactions in the import market. Cornsacks placed a$ 12s 6d. Arrived.— Layard, witli sugar, from Mauritius : Inverary, fromLeith ; Manilla Second, from Gothenburg, being the third cargo Baltic timber which arrived yesterday.
