TANCRED STREET.
TO THB EDITOB OP THE WEST COAST TIMBS.
Sib — With your permission I beg to draw the attention of the public of Hokitika to the fact that the Tancred street drain still exhales its deadly vapors. Some time since, with a view to remedy the evil, a meeting was held of ratepayers resident in Tancred and Weld streets, resolutions adopted, a deputation appointed, and a numerously-signed memorial presented, wherein it was prayed that the dram should bo covered, and the nostrils of our people freed from filthy smells, and their healths preserved. We voluntarily taxed ourselves, as far as the law allowed, and now day after day expires, and after all our trouble and expense we still remain in staht quo. What is our Mayor about ? Where is the Public Works Committee? When does it meet ? Is an important question to be quietly shelved ? borne one of the Corporation may possibly arise from his dormant state and say that Prosser is absent. If he is away, appoint some other member to fulfil his duties, and oblige the public and Yours truly, Ratepayee.
